CAREER AND MAJOR EXPLORATION

Wondering what you can do with your liberal arts degree?

The following are some typical ways you might explore career options:

Research Potential Careers
Using the CSO library as well as on-line sources in the right-hand column, you can learn about potential career fields.

Afterward, you can meet with a member of the CSO staff to discuss your findings and brainstorm using the Pathways workbook.

Career Counseling
Career services professionals are available for individual appointments to assist students with identifying their values, interests, skills, needs, and goals related to choosing a major or career field. They can discuss career options, résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, job search strategies, graduate school options, and opportunities for gaining experience through internships, externships, and summer jobs. The Strong Interest Inventory and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator are available to assist students when appropriate. Call or stop in to arrange an appointment.

Talk with Professionals
Informational interviewing and networking involves talking with someone who has experience in the kind of work you might enjoy. Network with HWS alumni, alumnae and parents using our Career Network Database is just one of the effective ways to gather information. These alumni, alumnae and parents have volunteered to serve as a resource by offering career advice and information.
