Curtin University, Perth Australia
Lingnan University, Hong Kong
University of Tuebingen, Germany
Yonsei University, Seoul, S. Korea
All HWS exchange partners are accredited, degree-granting institutions where HWS students have access to a full curriculum. In each case, in order to send a Hobart or William Smith student, HWS must also receive a local student from the exchange partner. Thus admission to exchange programs can be competitive as we generally have only one or two places available for each program. Although the academic programs are structured differently, HWS students will receive full credit for their exchange semester (or year), and will have international course grades figured into their cumulative GPA.

HWS exchange programs are open to juniors and seniors in good academic and social standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants to Tuebingen are also required to have completed the equivalent of four semesters of German with a B average. Lingnan and Yonsei will consider applications from exceptional sophomore students when space is available. These programs are recommended only for students who are extremely independent, both socially and academically. Note: the academic calendars for each site are quite different than at HWS. Seniors might not be back in time for Commencement. If you apply to Tuebingen in the fall, please note that this is a full-year program. In the spring, it is for one semester only.
In Perth, Hong Kong, and Seoul, students reside in residence halls run by the host universities for international undergraduate and graduate students. All rooms are furnished and there are communal kitchen/cooking facilities placed throughout the residences for the use of the residents. In Tuebingen, students live in apartments with other international or German students; the international office staff provides assistance in locating housing.
Students will be charged standard HWS tuition and a $500 administrative fee. This will cover credit for a four-course semester, airport arrival services and orientation program. Note that no room or board charge is included as students will pay rent directly to the host university or apartment landlord and either purchase or prepare their own food (depending upon preference and site). Students should bring the HWS room and board fees with them to cover these expenses. Additional expenses not covered include airfare, books, visas, personal expenses, (laundry, entertainment, ground transportation and independent travel). CGE staff will provide reasonable cost estimates for each site.
NOTE: The information contained in this brochure is subject to change. Please see the CGE for more information.
