Abbe Center for Jewish Life Director and Hillel Adviser
Community Affiliations:
"I love Friday night Shabbat dinners and the cycle of Jewish life - starting the New Year in the fall, the lights of Hanukkah in the Winter, thinking about springtime in Israel in January/February when we celebrate Tu B'Shevat. The Jewish community at HWS represents a wide variety of Jewish backgrounds and experiences. I enjoy the closeness of a small community, and the chance it affords to get to know people."

Professor of Religious Studies
Professor Dobkowski is the coordinator of the Holocaust Studies minor as well as the HWS organizer for the yearly "March for Remembrance and Hope," a week-long European excursion that teaches students the dangers of intolerance through the study of the Holocaust. Dobkowski is an expert in terrorism and genocide and has written "The Tarnished Dream: The Basis of American Anti-Semitism," "The Politics of Indifference: Documentary History of Hologaust Victims in America," "Jewish American Voluntary Organizations," and co-authored "Nuclear Weapons, Nuclear States & Terrorism." Trustee and Past President of Temple Beth-El
2005 New York Professor of the Year
"We're always looking for ways to engage students more and more each year. We work with Hillel on programming, have some HWS students teach in our religious school and would love to have students lead some services, like a havdallah or a Friday night service, in the future."

Cantor of Temple Beth-El
Community Affiliations:
"In the past and currently, Temple Beth-El and the Colleges do many things together. Every Jewish HWS student is a member of the congregation, welcome to all services. We also come together for films with Jewish students, have a Holocaust seminar and invite Jewish students to a second night Passover seder."
